Notes:
This is a short little hike up a hill,
I got to the top in about 5 minutes, It is usually crowded
But it has one of the best views of downtown Salt Lake City,
and the Great Salt Lake.
Looking south past Salt Lake City to the point of the mountain.
Ensign Peak
The monument atop Ensign Peak
Mount Olympus is the dark mountain in the foreground,
behind Olympus is Twin Peaks,
behind Twin is the Pfiefferhorn, Thunder Mountain,
Chipman Peak and Lone Peak.
A view of the Wasatch with the State Capitol in the right corner.
Downtown Salt Lake City, looking down State Street.
From Ensign Peak you can see northwest to Antelope Island
and the Great Salt Lake.

Looking to find out if 'the' mountain takes it's name from my Ensign relatives.

Hiked it during a snow squall and what seemed to be light flurries in downtown SLC made near white out conditions just over a thousand feet in elevation! It's probably the most convenient downtown hike

Hiked this peak about 7 times, and for the conservation of gas, I'm not gonna hike it again. Me and my family live on 5600 west and 4700 south, and gas is really expensive so we decided to only hike big and important peaks, such as Mount Olympus, Grandeur peak. Basically any peak above 6,000 ft.
My record for this hike was 15 minutes, and dam, you climbed it in 5 minutes, thats quite fast, basically running up the hill.

I love the Utah pictures. I lived in Ogden for 4 years back in the early 80's. I've lived in Wisconsin now for 23 years and am more than ready to leave. I miss the mountains!!!!!!!

Salt Lake City is a beautiful place surrounded by mountains, deserts and lakes. It resembles the beauty of the South American Andes. The residents of Salt Lake City were quite hospitable and kind. I would come back but for holidays.

Neat Pictures! I'm originally from Taylorsville, UT Born and raised. Moved to Texas a few years back and came home over the July 4th holiday to visit and made the hike up to the peak with my wife and boys, it was a memorable expierience.

To Nona Pace:
Addison Pratt received his endowments on Ensign Peak before his mission to the Sandwich Islands, 21 Jul 1849. I don't think Joseph F. Smith received his there.

I visited SLC in Fall of 05 and the best part of the entire trip was watching a thunderstorm move in over the Wasatch front and hiking up Ensign Peak to see the lightning. It was an amazing experience i will NEVER forget, and that i hope to repeat many times more.
