Nova Friburgo is located in the northeastern side of the state of Rio de Janeiro.
The altitude is about 2,700 feet higher than that of Rio de Janeiro city.
Nova Friburgo was founded in 1818 by 2,000 Swiss emigrants from Fribourg.
Nova Friburgo is the first town in all of Brazil to be settled by Germans.
