These are a collection of images taken on multiple trips to Jamaica.
I had a client who would trade me vacations for work. I would take
pictures of the tourist areas and of their Beach House Villas in
trade.
The first time I went to Jamaica, it was like the perfect dream
that turned into a nightmare. I didn't know what to expect, and
so I had a hard time with the agressive locals. I tried to be friendly,
courteous, empathetic, and honorable. And that's how they get you,
with your politeness. |

Jamaica is incredibly beautiful and
their culture is facinating. I love to listen to the locals speak
Patois (Not that I understand it). I didn't listen to Reggae before
I went there, but now I understand a little better why people like
it, and where they're coming from. However, it's not my favorite
place in the world due to the way the locals treat tourists.
But, you can still have a nice time in Jamaica. You just need to
understand how to act, to make life easier there. The information

The majority of Jamaican people are extremely friendly and kind,
however many of the tourist areas attract the worst Jamaicans. This
minority of Jamaicans will cause you to feel under attack at all
times. |

Anytime you travel in this world you get the bad along with the good. I think
another big factor is if you travel to tourist areas as opposed to the off the
beaten path areas. I have been going to jamaica for 15 years, I do understand
the culture and the language. I would think that one should have both of those
two assets before judging. If you don't understand , how can you
judge?
Aggressive conversation? They call conversation an argument! Let's not
get so comfortable in our own cultures that we forget why we travel. We travel
to embrace other cultures, good and bad!
I have a retreat there for the past
eight years. Have been going to the same village for 15 years. Sure things have
happened but so have these same things gone on stateside.
Your generalization
of Rasta's was alarming and tends to sway towards racism. Never can we lump
people into one category, I should hope that we have evolved more than
that.

I think that you are being a little harsh with Jamaicans. I have been there a
lot and love it. I agree they can be aggressive but I have alos experienced that
in Europe and in the US. Homeless, hungry and the poor in any country beg for
money and food. We as tourists might find it annoying but that is reality for
many. Try not eating for 2 days and see how friendly you would be!
